Novell 5.1 Reporting Incorrect Volume Sizes
rmaudsley
Anyone have this problem, the volumes are reporting 97% full when they are not even close to that.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

I am in the process of looking into this myslef.It would appear to be an issue with the amount of purgable space being used on the driver. In my tests solarwinds is reporting total used space as used space + pureable space.
I am trying to work out how to report on just used and if possible size of purgaeble space.

We see the same problem. We have several Novell servers and seeing the discrepancy in the SPACE USED (on VOL1) between Orion and Novell's Insight Manager tool. The SYS volume seems to track the same with what Insight Manager sees. We are running Novell NetWare 5.00.10 .
Orion says....
VOLUME SIZE SPACE USED
SHAMAIL/SYS: 4.9 GB 3.8 GB 78 %
SHAMAIL/VOL1: 10.1 GB 9.9 GB 98 % <===
Novell Insight Manager says ...
VOLUME SIZE SPACE USED
SHAMAIL/SYS: 4768 MB 3653 MB 76%
SHAMAIL/VOL1: 9831 MB 1786 MB 17% <===
I reported the problem to SW back in May but they had no answers. They did suggest sending them a MIB dump but I've been sidetracked on other priorities. SW says they pull the info from the HRStoragetable (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.3). I hope to get back to this issue soon.
So, I suggest reporting the problem to SW Support. The more customers reporting the problem the better chance we have on getting the issue resolved.

We are experiencing this issue also. WE have 30+ Novell servers, version 5.00.10. As a rule, the volume stats are close, but they Do include purgeable files in the total used. If we purge a volume, the stats match what the Windows client and Novell Console1 see.
We see this issue on a volume that had an image copied to it and filled the volume to near capacity. After deleting the image, and purging the volume back to 55% full, SW reports it as 130%.
We ran the utilitiies to compact the SW DB, and now it sees the volume, (server\VOL1:) as 96% - 99% full, regardless of the purge state.
Using HP OpenView SNMP Data Presenter, we can get the values being sent by the server, and they are correct. 17.9 G drive, 7.8 G free.
We have also removed the problem server completely from SW, run DB maintenence, Compact DB, then put the server back into SW. Same problem.
