We have a need to monitor backup interfaces that are normally Up-Down when our primary WAN circuits are functioning. If we monitor these interfaces with Orion then the nodes show up in the nodes with problems anytime their status is Up-Down and not when they are Up-Up. When the interfaces are in the Up-Up status is when we have an issue.
I've attempted a workaround by assigning these interfaces a custom property and creating an alert for them when they are in an Up-Up status, but the only way to remove them from the nodes with problem view is to completely filter the node from the view. This is not a good solution since the node will not show up if there is another problem.
I've investigated the use of a custom poller but it is extremely time consuming creating 24 custom pollers for each of my dial backup routers. Also this option creates an issue with creating an advanced alert since I want an email for each backup interface which comes up on the node. I think with this option I would end up with 24 alerts for each router.
Has anyone with a similar problem created a workable solution? Would it be possible to get some additional functionality included in Solarwinds for supporting backup interfaces?
