Upgrade advice - 8.5 to 9.0, AM to APM.

Question

We're currently running NPM 8.5.1 SP3, and we're using Application Monitor in a fairly serious way. I know that APM has a lot of changes to it, and it's probably going to take a lot of work to move our alerts over to it. Our Networks team (I'm a server guy, we monitor both with Orion) wants some of the features of 9.0 sooner, rather than later.

What's the best path here? I would like to just upgrade to 9.0, then migrate to APM from AM when we have the time. Would anything be likely to bite me if we do that?

Unfortunately, we don't know why some people have seen the Remove option disappear for AM. I don't think it's related to upgrading, but who knows.

Thanks Tim!  We'll follow your recommended steps.  Since those customers had already attempted 9.1, I was hoping since we're still at 8.5.1 there would be a way to recover the Remove option for AM in Add/Remove Programs rather than fiddling with the registry, removing DB tables and Orion files.
