We have moved to Google Mail as our Corporate Email provider, having moved away from Novell Groupwise. Today we hit a wall with automated alerts as these were sent with basic username and password authentication. Now, under Gmail, the issue is that it does not allow you to connect to their SMTP server without SSL/TLS support. I opened a ticket with Solarwinds on this and they said it is not supported at the moment. However I have seen another request since Orion was in version 9.0. So far there has not been any work done on adding this feature. Seeing that more organisations are moving to Cloud Computing, would it not be wise to offer this feature as more than likely a third party provider will only allow you to connect to their server with this support.
Has anyone else had issues as described lately? I think this is a simple request and should be easy enough to implement. This is also one of Orion's strong features, it's alerting. Can this be provided in a future release of Orion, very soon.
