What Port - What MAC - What IP Cirrus Inventory

I may be missing something.

With Cirrus doing all of those chores during it's nightly inventory - is there a way for me to search for:

An IP Address - and then know what port, on which device, and the mac-address it is? - What Port Specifically vice what VLAN #. (Or search any one of those criteria for that information?)

In Cirrus' Win32 console, please look at the Find IP/Mac functionality. That may be what you are looking for.

Now, what would really be nice is the ability to search arp/cam/mac tables from the website. In addition... Have a report viewable from the website that shows basically the equivalent of a Switch Port Mapper output. This would be HUGE for us, as it could seriously reduce the number of cases we get from the server folks asking us to "check the speed and duplex on the switch port for server x". I plan to build something as close to this as possible via Universal Device Poller in NPM, but NCM already does most of this today. The trick would be not having it simply be a view of a static report, but be able to acquire the updated info on-demand.

Does it actually work for you guys? If we put in an IP Address we get several results showing up and none of them are accurate. As far as I am concerned its still broken and has never been fixed.

I entered my IP address, and this information is correct. (So it seems to me it's fine.)

What I would (really) like to see is something less comprehensive such as this:

IP - found on this device - plugged into this port (i.e.)

IP - 172.26.140.105 was located on (gc_3750_switch) and plugged into (FastE1/0/11)

This is a feature that we thought would really help us when we started looking at the NCM.. After some time we found the IP lookup feature almost useless due to our 960 devices that it reports back on.

We recently turned to a product called LOCATE by Etelemetry. Quick and easy lookup with history.

I wish this feature was integrated in Orion or the NCM... Look forward to seeing it in the future.

See all of this? It's a whole lot of nothing, it doesn't even show the correct switch in the path, and has lots of switches that have nothing to do with where my workstation is plugged in. How is that in any way a functional or useful tool?

I don't care if it's within this or that ARP table, I don't care the rank, I don't care if it's downstream from this or that switch, just SHOW me the switch and port of where my device is plugged into. That's IT! That's all I care about!

I guess I just don't understand why this has been such a problem with Cirrus, or what the logic is for having it this way...

Last I heard the goal to get this 'fixed' was 6.x, is that still the case? Cirrus has come a long way, but this is one of the major sticking points it has..
