Hi Solarwinds,
really quick one, not very important... I use APM a lot, and I used to use it before the revolutionary release of 3.1,. before 3.1, you would have hundreds of applications going into unknown for no apparent reason, but that barely happens any more with 3.1
anyway, due to the ways of old, and the historic performance issues with APM, i still use the "application in unknown" status on the main APM page as an indicator as to how APM is running. However, I don’t like the fact that applications are marked as "unknown" when NPM knows fine rightly that the node is marked as DOWN.
Would you consider a new status of something like" node DOWN"?
This would leave the “unknown” state to be a little more like when volumes and interfaces go into unknown due to ASNMP having issues, but the node is still PINGable.
While I am ranting, what do you think about adding another status for “unmanaged”. I seer there is an “other” status, but that is not very friendly, and I am not sure if it is only for unmanaged nodes, or if it is a bucket for any other status that is not picked up by the other statuses…
Thoughts? Comments? Flamers? A job in Solarwinds product design?
Cheers
dan
