Where do I go to change Solarwinds monitoring config target to use the Management interface on all network devices instead of the inside/internal interface to pull the config from the device?
Bruce,
I believe this would be a change on the node configuration, as well as snmp-source and configuring the ssh for a specific interface. If you change the node IP to the management IP, all traffic should flow through that.
Hope that helps,
Bryan
Thanks Bryan. This might be an option but wondering if we need to change a script in Solarwinds.
Wouldn't necessarily need to be a script. Can you provide some more information about what you're requesting? Or provide an example of what you mean? I just want to make sure we are talking about the same things.
Right now pull the config from the device we use internal interface, just need to know where to change to use management interface instead.
Is the internal interface the IP address of the Node in SolarWinds?
Good question Bryan but I'm new to Solarwinds and trying to figure to answer you. Where can I go to check? I can get you some screenshots.
Open a node that you know is not being managed by the management interface. You can do this from Settings, Manage Nodes, then select a node. Is that IP address the internal IP address of the device?
Yes.
This is why you are getting configs from the internal interface. Change the Polling IP address to the management interface, this will change how SolarWinds interacts with that device.
Let me know if that makes sense!
Yes this makes sense Bryan. Thanks. Since I have so many Nodes is there a place in Solarwinds like a script to change or have to do it manually by individual Node? Or if you have a better solution please let me know.
You could run another discovery on the management subnet/IP range, then import the devices that way. I don't think you'd be able to mass edit the nodes though, sorry!
