installing current dpa to monitor sql 2008 R2

Question

can it be done?

we purchased 2 liscense of dpa to move around our customers to monitor their sites as needed.

first one went smoothly and i am getting data

second one failed because my user did not have proper permissions.

third one worked up to the point of trying to connect to the insance being monitored.   which is sql 2008 R2

on both that worked ... i was able to install sql express for the repository, the first one i was able to connect to monitor.. the 2nd i cant     getting tls handshake errors.  whether  i do windows auth or sql auth

Yes, you can indeed monitor old and unsupported versions of SQL Server going back to SQL Server 2008. However, I wouldn't recommend it. The reason, of course, is that while we monitor those old version, we do not offer support on those older versions. So if you ever encountered unusual or erroneous behavior on DPA when monitoring those versions of SQL Server and then call for support, their first response will be "Upgrade to a supported version of SQL Server. Once that's done, we can provide support if the problem continues". Does that make sense?

we have many more instances at different sites to do, like 90-100    and maybe 5 of them are low level sql  like 2012 or lower.    i am completely ok with making them upgrade
