WAN Quality IP SLA Operations

Hi All

Is it possible to monitor WAN quality (ICMP echo, TCP connect, and UDP Jitter) IP SLA operations without CLI credentials and/or SNMP read/write string?

I found an article confirming an IP SLA operations can be added without SNMP read/write if created on the device, however it does not mention whether or not CLI credentials are still needed?

The online Administrator Guide V4.2 has an even stranger bit of advice on the page for Adding Existing Operation to VoIP and Network Quality Manager:

"Note: If you have not entered valid CLI credentials for the selected node, you may be prompted to enter credentials. You do not have to provide credentials to the node."

Huh? Why would they prompt for credentials if you don't have to provide them? I think it means that your really need them in some cases.

So I've always supplied the credentials.

I tested it:

When I go to VoIP&Quality Settings>Manage IP SLA Nodes>Add Nodes to VoIP and Network Quality Manager to add a node that has only SNMP RO, I find that I get an error that says "SNMP write credentials not available or valid." If I continue, I get an Add Nodes Results dialog that also says "SNMP write credentials not available or valid" - but it does indeed add the node. That seems counterintuitive to me.

If I go to VoIP&Quality Settings>IP SLA Operations Wizard, and click the Monitor existing operations radio button, then expand the Advanced link so I can Manually  enter operation numbers, then select the device I added that has only RO credentials, it says under the Status column, No CLI credentials available (with a yellow light bulb icon that looks less serious), and click continue, it does try to find the operation, but I got "Operations not found or not supported."

If I add the CLI credentials, it finds the operation OK.

If I remove those credentials, and add the SNMP RW, it does not find the existing operation - I get the Operations not found or not supported. error.

So I'm gonna have to say, yeah, you need CLI credentials to add operations. and SNMP (RO or RW) will not work, and the KB article is wrong. It's dated 11th of October, 2010, so maybe it did work that way once, or someone did not test it sufficiently.
