Adding SLA Operators - With RO String ?

Hi All

We installed NPM, and I had a question on IP SLA module.

We have configured routers with RTR commands, and see statistics from the routers through "show ip sla monitor statistics command".. Now we need to add these SLA nodes into solarwinds ip sla manager...

When I try adding the nodes, it asks me for a RW community string ? Cant it be done ONLY with RO string ? why is a RW required ? I really do not want solarwinds to change anything to my router config thro RW community string. Searched docs in solarwinds, but couldnt find much on this..

Can someone help me defining these IP SLA nodes to the manager?

Raj,

RW community strings are required for creating and managing IPSLA operations on routers. Since this is one of the primary use cases, we check for RW access and inform if missing. However, you should be still able to add nodes without RW access regardless the message.

IP SLA Manager only requires nodes to have a valid community string for reading and to be IP SLA capable. If you add such nodes, IP SLA Manager won't change anything to your routers, anyway it still allows you to add the existing operations to monitor and present their statistics.

Thanks.. so is it again mandato to add these nodes with RW strings (even though they dont change any configs?) .. i tried adding devices with RO and it didnt work..

and.. should i add the nodes first, and then setup operations for already existing profiles manulaly?

My bad.. I was able to add the IP SLA node with RO Community string.. didnt see the box greyed out when adding it.. I was able to monitor the IP SLA ICMP probe time through solarwinds..
