Is is possible to measure performance for SAP across the WAN using IP SLA? I'm not familiar with SAP but would like to try and show connection quality. Would the TCP Connect operation to an SAP port be a feasible test?
TIA
Brian,
You can create a TCP connect operation from an IP SLA capable node to any external target; all IP SLA Manager needs is an IP address or host name for the external target. In your case, it would be the IP address of your SAP port. You would select the Custom path type when creating the operation, and we give you the option to specify an external target towards the bottom of the page.
HTH,
Craig
It seems to be restricted to high range port numbers. Is it possible to use SAP ports 32xx, 33xx etc?
Thanks.
You can specify the port number when you create the operation. Another option you should look at is the Orion Application Performance Monitor (APM) module. With APM you can easily create SAP monitors. You can learn more about APM here.
What's confused me is the text next to the port field -
The destination port number should be an even numbered port in the range 16384 to 32766 or 49152 to 65534.
I've tried using port numbers 3200, 3300, 3600. I can telnet to these ports on the SAP servers.
I also tried tests to various internal servers on port 80 (the default) but in all instances the error message is -
Operation did not occur because no connection (session) exists with the target.
Is there something I'm missing or does it just not support TCP ports below 16384?
The SAP servers are hosted so I don't think APM is an option, besides I'm just to utilise what we have already purchased. The idea is to be able to show the business system team the WAN performance from various sites to the SAP servers when someone complains its running slow.
