Hardware sensors/monitoring and Dell VRTx

We're testing out a Dell VRTx server (sort of a branch office blade chassis) so I added it to Orion to see what I could find.

We're on NPM 11.0 and SAM 6.1

Orion sees the CMC (chassis management controller) and can poll it via SNMP and sees hardware sensors for it.

However, it seems like we might be missing some sensors as Orion didn't notice when I pulled out one of the chassis hard drives (thus creating a fault in the RAID array), nor did it notice when I removed one of the chassis fans.

The CMC noticed both and alerted via its web interface, but Orion didn't pick up on it.

This is because SAM's Blade Chassis support for Dell servers currently includes the M1000e only. If you you be willing to send us MIB walks from the Dell VRTX (as many as you have would be helpful) I log extending that support to the VRTX as a feature request.

Is this the only VRTx you have in your environment? Also, can you confirm the chassis configuration? Are there redundant RAID controllers in this chassis? How many physical drives are installed? How many blades, and how many power supplies?

Yes, it's the only VRTx currently.

No redundant RAID controllers, 4 power supplies, 2 blades. 6 hard drives, no PCI cards.

The IO Module is R1-2401 VRTX 1Gb Switch Module

Looking through the MIB walk you provided and Dell's MIB file, it appears they do not expose storage related information via SNMP for this chassis. If I'm mistaken, please let me know. I know the Dell MIBs pretty well, but sadly I'm unable to identify any storage related related information in the MIB walk provided.

I'm not seeing anything either; I'll poke the Dell resources helping on the eval.

Is it possible to poll via WSMAN? I know the CMC can be communicated to that way, and the info might be available there.

Have to dig through it, but if Orion can't speak it doesn't much matter.

Digging up an old thread because I'm now looking for a way to monitor this thing myself.

Question for you - Where did you configure SNMP in CMC to get this thing added to SolarWinds? At the CMC level I'm only able to setup SNMP trap/syslog or email alerts. Did you just setup SNMP traps?

After logging into the CMC, choose 'Chassis Overview' on the left hand pane, and then 'Network > Services' on the top bar. You'll see an option for SNMP.

Great thanks. You know I saw these options at the blade level but for some reason those tabs just skipped by me at the top level. Were you ever able to get the storage OID's for this thing? Mine has a PERC8 card and a basic mibwalk doesn't show anything at all related to it that I can gather.
