5% Disk Space Alert on Group of Nodes (SAM 6.3)

Hi Guys

I'm struggling with this newer version of SAM with Alerts & Reporting.

I need to create an Alert that reports back on any servers/nodes in a given group that experiences 5% Low Disk Space. The older version and NPM Alerting seemed easier than the 6.3!

I have created a Custom Property whereby I have now got my ground of servers and works fine when creating the Node DOWN alert against that group.

However, when creating a new alert for Volume status I can't get any further than the below;

I want to alert on VOLUME

Scope of alert

Volume % Available > is less than > 5%

Volume Type > is equal to > Fixed Disk

Volume Name > Does not contain > Page

Volume Name > Does not contain > PF

Volume Name > Does not contain > Cache

The Actual trigger condition

Why is this section here because unless something is specified here you can't go any further.

Then how do I point the above trigger to the group of servers?

This is frustrating...... In advance thank you for your support.

Hey there, the only difference between the scope and the trigger condition is context. You can put 100% of those conditions in the bottom portion and be fine. If it makes sense to logically split up "what devices I'm alerting against" vs. "what constitutes an alert condition" then you can certainly split them.

As for identifying the devices, you had mentioned you created a custom property that unified them? You would just add that additional criterion to the bottom of your list (e.g., MyCustomProperty = "foo").

This is what I keep reading as well, you should add a custom property and can't alert on groups. Seems silly to me and I wish they'd fix it. I don't utilize either option very heavily, but alerting on a group would definitely make life easier in certain cases.

Thanks Guys, it has always been an easy task to alert against Groups of nodes 'already' created in NPM/SAM on previous versions. Having to create Custom Properties and filter through criteria just to report disk space LOW on a group just seems long winded. It is important to be able to report against a group of nodes, for example all SQL servers, File Servers, specific group of servers managed by a particular team, devices owned by a particular client, and such like. I think I need to run through the User Guide for version 6 SAM and understand Alerts and Reports.

I feel your pain.

They are trying to combat this with the PerfStack views, but it doesn't cut it for group reporting. I need reports for different clients and groups, I whined about this 3 years ago in several threads. Custom charts are too busy, as seen in the PerfStack blog post image.

The Top vies reports are great, but with no Date selector a point in time is not conducive.

I've cobbled together some reports based on other recent threads, but there is in consistency that a PM just found recently that made everyone think our reporting is totally off and not reliable.

Why oh why can we not have a simple group reporting mechanism for Disk, CPU, memory with Date selection criteria that covers Nodes of Linux and Windows flavors. With other tools its a no brainer.
