Component Messages in Application down alert mails

Hi All-

We have multiple components under one application. Even if one component is down, the whole application/app template goes down with it. However we do not get the details why the app is down as in the Component down monitoring.

I tried Components with problems variable, still it only gives which components are down. Not the error message.

Application Status : Down

ComponentsWithProblems : Available free space (MB)(Down), Buffer cache hit ratio (%)(Down), Dictionary cache hit ratio (%)(Down), Library cache hit ratio (%)(Down), Available free memory (MB)(Down), Number of connected users to the database through SQL Net(Down), Temp files size (MB)(Down), Used Space in Tablespace (%)(Down), DB Backup Failure(Down)

If we try the app down alert as component down alert, then we get lot of alerts at once.

Simply put, i need your help to get one alert with error message when my application is down.

Please let me know your thoughts

Hello,

All i could come to, in a short time, is the following, which doesn't bring up too much, but it's a start. Depending on which columns you need this may be tweaked, be careful with converting values to nvarchar.

Application needs to be alerted on at the trigger condition. Below is the sql used in email besides Components with problems and you can see the result in the image on which the error message is null because status is due to threshold.

${SQL:Select (ComponentName + char(9) + ' --ErrorMessage: ' + isnull(ErrorMessage,'') + 'Statistic:' + cast(cast(cast(ComponentStatisticData as float) as int) as nvarchar(20)) + char(10)) FROM APM_currentStatistics with (Nolock) where ApplicationID =${N=SwisEntity;M=ApplicationID} and ComponentAvailability not in ('1','9') Group By ComponentName , ErrorMessage, ComponentStatisticData FOR XML RAW(''), ELEMENTS}

Make sure you alert alerting on the Component not the Application and use this variable.

${N=SwisEntity;M=ComponentAlert.StatusOrErrorDescription}
