Monitor when a SQL Cluster Rolls

I've been looking in the canned Component Monitors, Application Monitors, and Templates, and also the Templates on Thwack. I can't seen to find one that will allow you to configure an alert based on if a SQL cluster has its services rolled from the primary node to the secondary node.

Is there another way to skin this cat?

Forget SolarWinds for a second ... How would you normally know which server your services are at the moment? What would you need to check? Are there any events logged when it rolls? Are there any other services or traffic kicks in somewhere? How about logs? Would they indicate which one is active at the moment?

... once you know your trigger(s) - you can then watch it(them) with SolarWinds in many different ways

Currently we use a product called SiteScope. From what I am told, this monitors when a SQL Cluster Rolls, and even thought my CIO and myself are fully invested in SAM, there are members of the IT staff that are screaming loudly that they do not want to give up SiteScope until SAM can do EVERYTHING that SiteScope does. But these are the same people who do not mind receiving 10,000 alerts a month for an infrastructure that has had 99.99999% uptime during that month.

SQL uses the Windows failover Cluster. The following template(s) should provide you with what you are looking for.

There are windows event log entries that occur when this happens. I don't have the event IDs handy but that is how I would tackle it. I'd monitor the Cluster VIP and then have SAM alert when those specific entries occur.
