Is anyone hosting their SEM on Nutanix? Is it stable? Is it supported?
Hosting the SEM Appliance is not supported on Nutanix. The only supported Hypervisors for the Security Event Manager are Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon AWS.
Technical Support is not able to help if you attempt to run the SEM on any other hypervisor beyond what is listed in the system requirements: https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/sem/content/system_requirements/sem_2020-4_system_requirements.htm
Supported hypervisors are Microsoft HyperV and VMware ESXi.Nutanix AHV is not a compatible hypervisor.
Supported cloud platforms AWS & Microsoft Azure.
Vmware shop, 3 vmware hosts which are dated, connected to a cisco 9300 10gb switch, connected to an EMC Unity 300 SAN. Approx 50 server vm's, using around 24 TB of data.
I believe the vxrail we looked at was like $180k. An EMC powerstore with 3 new dell hosts around 85k. I've seen love or hate for vxrail, I've also seen others say just go with vsan ready nodes. (this appears to be not much cheaper than just going vxrail). 24/7 shop so while I'd like to DIY to save a few $$$, it will have to be enterprise grade (no synology, qnap, netgear, etc).
This sounds like an excellent thing to put in the SEM Feature Requests (thwack.solarwinds.com/.../feature-requests)
If anyone else using AHV stumbles across this, please vote up the feature request I have submitted to add your voice: thwack.solarwinds.com/.../nutanix-hypervisor---add-support-for-sem-appliance-on-ahv
Funny thing I got 3 Nutanix servers that are really re-badged Dell servers and ended up just loading ESXi on them.
This is now supported - documentation.solarwinds.com/.../sem-on-nutanix.htm
