Outlook Plugin Install - Need rules to detect which version of Outlook

I have an Outlook plugin I want to push out with Patch Manager, but I have 6 MSI files; 32 and 64 bit for the 2010, 2013, and 2016 versions.

I assume I'll need a package for each MSI and then an appropriate rule to detect which version of Outlook the computer has installed. How would I create that rule?

There are a couple of ways:

1) you could go off the MSI product codes for the versions of Office (problematic if you have Click-To-Run installs)

2) You can query the (Default) value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\OUTLOOK.EXE to get the install path of Outlook and then do a FileVersion check on Outlook.exe to see which Office version it goes with (major version number will tell you).

The complicating part of #2 is determining if it's 32 or 64 bit, especially if your clients are a mix of x86 and x64 versions of Windows. You'd have to do something like:

If OS bitness = 32

Then Office = 32bit

ElseIf OS bitness = 64

If Outlook path contains "x86"

Then Office = 32bit

Else

Then Office = 64bit

All of our desktop/laptop OS's are 64 bit, but we usually install the 32 bit version of Office. I'm just not sure all are 32 bit, and we have a mix of 2010, 2013, and 2016 office versions. I haven't made any Patch Manager rules yet so I'm not really sure how to query the registry values.

Are you using the MSI based Office versions or do you also have some of the click-to-run?

As far as how to actually create the rules in Patch Manager, I'm afraid I can't be much help as I don't use that product.

Anybody have Patch Manager that is familiar with creating rules?

Super easy. Go to reporting > Configuration Management Reports > Installed Programs and Features and create a new task. You can just input the names like I have shown and put in whatever you would like

I'm not looking to make a report, I need an installation rule so that the software is installed to client PCs. Please read my original question before responding!

Guess I misread the question somehow. I've created many custom packages over the years and it can be quite tricky, but damien has already given the answer. Please have good luck with it!
