Custom Orion Maps background images disappeared after upgrade. Any idea where these custom images are stored?

Does anyone know where custom map backgrounds for Orion Maps are stored?

Does anyone know if these custom maps get removed when doing a software upgrade?

We did an upgrade from 2020.X to 2023.1 recently and the background images for custom Orion Maps disappeared.

The person who made the custom Orion Maps put a lot of time and effort into this, and his map images all disappeared.

I'm having a tough time finding any info on this because so many Google or Thwack results are for Network Atlas which as far as I know is no longer supported and has nothing to do with Orion Maps.

Let me know if you have any ideas!

I've no idea if they're stored anywhere in a file directory, but this suggests its stored direct in the DB, which means that you might be able to fish them out of inactivity or get them back from a partial DB restore

Restore that table from backup perhaps?

Maybe you're on an older version. We are on 2023.1. I ran this query and I see a test image I uploaded:

SELECT TOP 1000 AccountID, AssetID, ID, ProjectID, DisplayName, UpdateDateTime, CreateDateTime, AssetType, FileType, FilePath, Persisted, Height, Width, Content, Thumbnail FROM Maps_Assets

It does not have the old ones. What I suspect happened is, updating to 2023.1 wiped out any images here. So I will see if there is a solution. There are a couple of other Thwack comments.

On 2023.3 here, I cant say I had mine knocked out during the upgrade so not sure what happened to yours there. Hopefully there's a convenient backup!

You raise a good point here. Whenever I setup a SolarWinds environment I have a custom graphics folder for my Map images that I want to save in case I have to rebuild the platform. So I always create a SolarWindsOrionMapsImages folder within SolarWinds as i've never been able to find the location that SolarWinds stores these images.

With network atlas it stored the images here : documentation.solarwinds.com/.../core-adding-custom-icons-from-graphics-files-sw3350.htm

images are saved in [SolarWindsOrion].[dbo].[Maps_Assets]. These should not be removed during the upgrade.

I did the upgrade to 2023.3 and the maps are still there. Oddly, I see a message in My Deployment about deleted map images, but the images I care about are still there after this upgrade.
