How to add a Custom SWQL Widget to your dashboard

There are a lot of nice custom SWQL queries shared on Thwack If you would like to add one of these to you dashboard pages and you have admin access to your system follow the instructions below to add a Custom SWQL Widget.

In upper left corner, hover over this then click Customize Page

On the upper right click Add Widgets

Type in Custom Query and click the search icon

Drag the Custom Query widget onto your dashboard

Click Done Adding Widgets

Click Done Editing

On your dashboard screen click Edit on your new widget

Fill in any information you want to change and place your SWQL query into the Query field then click Submit

Done! Enjoy your new widget

Will this new widget be present in the 'resources' list to be added in other dashboards?

No. That would be nice to have a widget template or something like that, where there is one place to update all the widgets that are based on that template. Unfortunately if you use the "same" widget on several pages, when you want to update it, you will have to update all of them individually. Updating them is not hard, because it's just pasting in the same swql each time, but sometimes it's hard to know where all you have that widget.

Now, around where somewhere on these forums is a "feature request". You could enter this as a feature request then paste the link here so we can go up vote that feature.

Widgets are "page view" dependent. Meaning if you add the widget to a view, then it will show up for all nodes that use that view.

Yes, you still need to know which views it has been added to, but we tend to tick to only using a few of the many views available:

- so remembering where a widget is and which views to edit becomes significantly easier - plus we document it for a "just in case" scenario.
