Upgrade from NPM 12.3 Coming Up - Installer Question

Hello,

We are currently on NPM 12.3 and corresponding versions (Orion Platform 2018.2 HF6, WPM 2.2.2, IPAM 4.7.0, VNQM 4.5.0, NCM 7.8, NPM 12.3, NTA 4.4.0, SAM 6.7) and are planning on an upgrade next week. When I choose NPM in the portal, it has me download the online Installer Solarwinds-Orion-NPM.exe and when I go to Orion Scalability, the file I download is Solarwinds-Orion-Installer.exe. Should I use Solarwinds-Orion-NPM.exe on my Main Poller and Solarwinds-Orion-Installer.exe on my APEs? For some reason I was thinking you could use the same installer on both types of pollers.

Tagging @jm_sysadmin , @wluther as they have done upgrades within the last 6+ months, and @KMSigma.SWI as we were discussing the upgrades in one of the "Products in Practice" sessions in December.

You should be able to just use the Solarwinds-Orion-NPM.exe on your Primary Polling Engine (PPE) and then download the scalability directly from the PPE (after the upgrade is complete).

This would be downloaded from the Polling Engines page right? Or is this in a different location in the newer versions?

That should do it if you need to, but the install will likely provide you a link after the primary is updated.

Thanks for your help leading up to this upgrade in this thread and in the upgrade discussion a few months back.

Anyway,I performed my upgrade today and everything seems to be working well. I did notice some entries in the Windows Application log about SWJobEngineWorker2 crashing. It seems to be out of memory.

Application: SWJobEngineWorker2.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.OutOfMemoryException

I found this KB article and wonder if it is applicable. Our pollers have 10 cores and 32GB of memory. I did not ever have this crash according to the event logs on 12.3. It started after getting 2020.2.4 up and running.

Enabling the garbage collector shouldn't hurt anything, but if you continue to see issues, open a support case just to be sure. The support teams will know more about your errors than I do.

I decided to reboot the MPE before making any changes and so far I haven't seen this error reappear. I'll keep this other change in mind if it comes back.
