The "Select Variable to Insert" hangs saying "Loading"

When creating an alert, and specifically when I am trying to select a variable to include in the description or an action, the form hangs with a "Loading" message.

In the "Show Variables For:" drop down menu I can select Global or Alert and the variables show up just fine. If I select the other value (that is specific on what I am monitoring) then it hands with a "Loading..." message.

I know I have had this problem in general last year. But now it appears to only be a problem for the Transactions variables. Anyone seen this?

I'd open a support case, but I think I remember that I could resolve that issue by doing an IIS Reset on the server. It may have just been a coincidence in my situation, but restarting the web services is pretty safe. Just be aware that you'll lose access to the Orion web console until the services start back up.

It would also be helpful to know what versions you are running of the software.

I opened a support case on Jan 13th. On Jan 16th a customer service rep said he would look into it. Haven't heard back from him since. I just put in a comment asking for an update.

To recap or to give an update where I am at-- Some alerts function complete without problems. Some alerts either do not trigger at all, or the email action doesn't fire off. When I re-create an alert that isn't working from scratch then it works as expected. A resolution to this case is either all the alerts are fixed programmatically, or programmatically tell me which alerts need to be recreated.

The email action configuration is not the problem. I can add it to a working alert and the email get sent. The SMTP server configuration is not the issue, though I did recreate that as well.

1. Locate this file in the Orion installation folder and back it up.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Information Service\3.0\Schemas\OrionSchema.xml"

2. Find the following rows:

3. Add there attributes alerting="false" so it looks like this

4. Restart all services.

Just wanted to say that it's January 2022 and this is still an issue, but adding these lines to OrionSchema.xml definitely fixed the issue. Restarting the Information Service, doing an iisreset, or running config wizard did not work... but this did.
