Uninstall IIS on primary polling engine

Hi Team,

As the Solarwinds document https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/Success_Center/orionplatform/content/core-secure-configuration.htm I can see the below one is mentioned as the best practice. We are having additional web servers and used in load balanced manner.

I would like to know is it good to uninstall IIS from the primary polling engine? Can some one help me on this.

Purchase additional web servers for segregation and accessing the web console. Unlike your primary polling engine, these do not run many critical services. Once setup, you can disable IIS and web services on your primary polling engine and allow the rest of the services to function independently of IIS.

I wouldn't remove IIS from the polling engine. The reality is that some future installer may very well just put it back.

You're better off to do things in a phased approach:

1) shut down the solarwinds site on the polling engine (and verify everything is OK elsewhere)
2) turn off IIS on the polling engine

If both of those things seem OK, then you've achieved the same result (freeing up resources, etc) without negatively impacting your installation or future patches or upgrades.

I too agree to the point you stated. But considering the document I mentioned, I am trying to know what will be the impact of IIS getting removed. Its a customer ask, so need to be specific.

I'm fairly certain the CW would reinstall it any time you ran it.  I've never taken the extra step to try and actively remove IIS from my primary, i just dont add it to the load balancing pool.  I also like keeping it around to help me troubleshoot times when the LB is being weird.
