Hardware details showing as physical for cloud hosted servers (Azure / AWS)

Hi All,

I have a question.

We are monitoring cloud hosted servers (Azure/AWS) in solarwinds via snmpv2 method. Our management don't allow us to monitor by WMI. So When I look at hardware its showing me as "Physical" in node details for any azure server.

A server hosted on azure is an instance for me and I guess that is virtual server. So I am confused, why is it showing as Physical in hardware details. Screenshot attached.

Please assist.

Orion only shows systems as VM's when it can find them inside a monitored vm host. It can't do that for cloud instances so it just defaults to physical. Basically it's meaningless in this situation. Unfortunate that you can't make it disappear.

So it would select by default as physical for any cloud instance (Azure/AWS) ?

This is same for all versions of orion?

Yes, the way I have seen it, they only show as virtual when the node is a child of a host that we are monitoring through the vmware or hyper v integrations. One would think that it wouldn't be too hard to update the logic to also treat everything that is a child of the cloud tables as a virtual system as well, so if you make it a feature request it will probably get some attention from the devs eventually.
