adding nodes from text file?
FormerMember
Is there no way to add nodes from a text file? I only see network discovery and adding a node individually.
Can this be right or am I missing something obvious?

There is currently no way to import nodes from a text file directly into the DB.

you can import into the custom propety editor, however I do not think that is what you are looking for!

hmm that is odd, wonder why they decided not to add that.
Anyway, we pre-configure all of our aggregation routers, so we know well in advanced what the future subnets are going to be, since this are all /30s, the network discovery tool will be nice as long as we don't have to scan a whole /16 everytime but just a bunch of /30s.
We currently have a total of 750 /30 networks which is a pain to manually configure in the network discovery tool, but it seems better than scanning 65535 or more nodes everytime we just want to add a couple of new ones, you will think why don't we manually add them, the problem is that we don't know exactly when or which nodes are added since that is done by another group, so essentially we are looking for a way to automate this procedure, which I have noticed Orion has shortcomings with this aspect.
I noticed that the discovery tool creates a database file, is there a way to manually add these pre-configured networks to that file ?

You'd still have to go in after the discovery & tell it what resources you want to monitor - CPU/Memory & all, only active or no interfaces. Then most of us add Custom properties & descriptions to the node & interfaces.
There really is no simple way to get around doing at least some manual work.
I suggest you leave a tool such as the Engineering Edition IP address management running with SNMP turned on.
Then publish it to the Web & check the subnets for new devices on a regular basis.
Better yet, have the group installing the devices notify your group when they are done.
(We turned off IP Helper on our new install router template, so the installer is forced to call our group, in order for the PC(s) to get an IP address).
