Do APEs talk to each other?

I have some APEs that are firewalled from each other, but I see two of them talking to each other using port 17777. I don't see a definitive indication in the Port Requirements documentation that this port needs to be open between APEs. I am running NPM, NCM, SAM, NTA, UDT, WPM, and SRM. Any ideas where this comes from and will there be any problems if it is blocked? Thanks for any help.

That is certainly what I had always understood as well. So, how to explain the fact that firewall rules are actually blocking attempts of APEs trying to talk to each other over port 17777. It's not just that the port is open - traffic is attempting to be sent/received. Malware? Virus? Scan?

Ideas?
