I am looking for an outside looking in, real time "Internet monitoring" application\service (Open source, free or subscription based). It doesn't appear that Solarwinds has this capability but maybe I'm missing something. I understand this is an interesting challenge in that I'm asking for what some would consider impossible. I know about the free "looking glass" applications out there but they have limitations.
Long story short I've been tasked with finding a way, preferably real time, in identifying when customers from various regions of the world are having latency or perceived outage issues potentially due to incorrect or nefarious BGP routing, DNS issues, ISP issues, etc. The idea is to provide operations with a tool to check for areas out in the public Internet to blame that are beyond their control.
All kidding asside any help with how SolarWinds can help with this or if there is an alternative. I know of one competitor that has cloud based "agents" that can check routes, latency, bandwidth issues with traffic headed back to any given AS.
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this are greatly appreciated! I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this.
