Report Writer

To get my hourly response time reports for my global sites, I have to RDP into the Orion Server instead of being able to pull from the web console. The web console is only showing for the hour of 12:00:00 AM for each day. Report Writer is able to give me all 24 hours for each day for my sites. I have 12 Regions, each of which have anywhere from 1 - 12 sites within. I need to be able to grab these reports from the Report tab from the Web Console or have Report Writer send me these reports on a schedule. Please Help.

Hi,

1.) you cannot have reports emailed to you that you dont already have on the website as the scheduler does nothing but send you that website via email.

2.) you have a report that you created in report writer that does not show the same hours as it does on the web? if that is the case you should open up a support case! nonetheless, just post how you have your report set up (post the screenshots of the relevant tabs in report writer). Somebody could then try to reproduce this and see if it can be fixed (if I have time, I'll do it).

Thank you for your response. I will post a couple screen shots of what is happening. the issue is that I have a report created which gives me the hourly average and peak response times for my MPLS routers. Report writer gives me all 24 hours in a day but the webconsole only gives me 12:00AM for each day. Also, the 12:00 AM reponse time stats on the web console are different than the 12:00 AM reponse time stats on Report Writer.

Here is the response I received from Solarwinds when I opened a support case for this issue (their work around is not acceptable for me because I have a total of 24 reports which contain as many as 12 sites in the report):

Hi Christina,

Thank you for contacting SolarWinds Support.

Report Writer is the best bet to automate the reports. What is needed is one scheduled report, triggered on the hour.

Unfortunately that isn't possible in the current version as there is no "Hourly" pull-down menu.

As a workaround I'd suggest setting up one such scheduled report at midnight. After testing to see it works, copy the report and change the time to 1am...and so on for all the other hours of the day.

Please let me know if this is an acceptable workaround for your requirements.

yes, I can also confirm that the reports look different in the writer and on the web and that the hourly option is available in the report writer...

as you have already opened a ticket I would suggest posting the ticket# here and emailing the url to this thread to whoever is working on your case.

I sent the same screen shots to the person working on my case..... I think that it's really LAME that I can't get the same reports from the web as Report Writer though! I hope that if it truly can't be done, it's a upcoming feature enhancement! OR, put report writer on a local machine.....it's just silly! Thanks for looking at this and taking the time for me, I appreciate it!

I got a response from support:

- Go to the Report writer.
- Choose and edit those reports which are not displaying correctly on the web console.
- On the "General" tab, uncheck "Group historical data by days"
- Save the report and try running it on the web console again.

The "Group historical data by days" was a feature added in v10 to assist with grouping some of the reports on the web console.

Pre v10, some of the reports would not group in the web console the same way they were grouping in the report writer, so it lead to some confusion for some of our customers when the reports would not show up exactly the same. This setting helps to correct that issue, for certain reports when the summarization tab is set to use "Hours". When the summarization tab is not to to hours - for example, set to days or months, this setting can cause the issue
