alert plays a sound ( again!)

I am running ORION NPM V8.5.1 and can't get alerts to play sounds. I have searched fairly extensively on Thwack and haven't found a solution to this problem.

I wanted an interface status change alert to play a sound on a remote PC webbed into the ORION NPM server. Had anyone gotten this to work reliably?
