Node Added Custom Property

I want to keep track of the date where equipment has been added to our solarwinds installation.

I have 365 days of rentention on the Audit events so I will start to fill out the existing Nodes manually.

But what I really would like is if I could find a way that will automatically fill out the Node added custom property when you import/create the Node.

Have any of you worked with this and poissibly found a way?? or just a pointer to how it could be done!

Hi Jens,

you could do that with an Alert. Set the Trigger Condidition to the event "Node has been created". On the trigger actions pane choose the action "change custom property". Configure the custom property you need and insert the value from the event trigger time.

As a reset condition just choose something like automatically reset after 10 minutes, just so you do not have dozens of "alerts" active.

Lots of ways to do this, but the simplest way to me would be to create your custom property then set up an alert rule has a condition saying "AddedDate" is blank, reset when no longer true, the action would be set custom property to ${N=Generic;M=Date;F=Date}

But that would write the current date on all Nodes that dont have a date yet.

And I am only starting to put in those dates, I imported the newly added eqipment for the last 12 Months yesterday by importing a txt file of the Node created Audit events, but the older eqipment do not have any dates.

I think I will try the first suggestion, but I might go for the last when my database is complete

Why don't you bulk edit all the older nodes CP with a fictitious value, which you can then update over time? That way you can setup the alert to catch new nodes otherwise your constantly chasing your tail.

Yeah would be a solution but right now i cant get the Alert to work. It does not seem that the

${N=Generic;M=Date;F=Date} Is working, right now it only seems like I can choose a date.

Anybody know of another way to set a date in custom properties to the current date?
