Webinterface performance ?

Am I the only one who finds the web interface terribly slow ? My current Orion 9.5sp4 setup consists of:

Orion Polling engine:

2x Xeon 2.8 Ghz

2 GB RAM

RAID1 SATA disks

Windows Server std 2003

Orion DB server

Xeon Quad Core E5335 2 Ghz

4 GB RAM

RAID 10 SAS disk system

MS SQL server 2008

Windows Server std 2003

Orion Web server

Pentium 4 based system

2 GB RAM

Windows Server std 2003

I'm monitoring:

Network Elements	2986
Nodes	221
Interfaces	2741
Volumes	24

And I'm experiencing timeouts when generating charts, reports etc. And the general experience of using the web interface is pretty bad as you have to wait 30 second everytime you click something..

A couple of things to look at:

How much free memory do you have on the Orion box? Is the server paging?

Same on the SQL box but also note the avg disk queue length.

Do you have any other modules installed? Do you have anti-virus software on the Orion server with real-time file scan on?

The SW peeps will be political because they have to but I do not have to be PC. I think you are having an issue because your server specs are very poor. You are monitoring a good bit with very little CPU and RAM. Your DB server looks good but the other 2 especially the WEB box are aweful.

You need more RAM on your boxes at least 4GB and that P4 needs to be replaced.

The net net is this can be caused by a ton of things. Hardware is a perfect example. I have also seen slow website performance cause the inetpub directory was being scanned in real time so when you clicked on a page, it took awhile to come up, but when excluding that directory and the SolarWinds directory, it got alot faster. What modules do you have installed?

I would try these couple items and worst case scenario, log a case with support

There's plenty of available memory on both servers - ~500 MB on the Orion-poller and more than 1GB on the SQL server.

About the avg. disk queue length - it does skyrocket from time to time - but thats while running some complex custom sql repports.

No extra modules installed - I have antivirus software running on all servers - Have tried to adjust the real-time scanning parameters and excluded the Inetpub folder from scanning. Will report back on whether it makes any impact.

I humply disagree - as long as the current CPU and memory is never maxed out - it'll yield no extra performance going to faster hardware. Yeah the P4 server is a bit on the weak side - but using the webinterface on the Orion Polling engine is exactly the same experience.

We have been storing detailed statistical data for 60 days and Hourly statistics for 90 days and Dayli statistics for 800 days - I'm wondering if the size of the DB might somehow have a negative impact on performance ?!?

My server Spec aint the best Core2duo running at 2.2G with 3gb of ram.
I am running everything on this one box.

My web interface appears to run without any issues.

The only difference i see is that im not monitoring over 2000 items im still under 400.

Try using firefox or another browser. I find that firefox runs 3 times faster as far as the Orion web console.
