How do I setup email alerts for certain ports.

So we've got it monitoring a bunch of ports, some obviously more important than others. I'm wondering how do I set it up so that if certain ports go down I'll get an email.

Use the Custom Property Editor (Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Grouping and Access Control) to create an interface custom property called More_Important_Than_Others of type Yes/No. Check the box for the interfaces that are more important. Then create an alert like so:

Trigger Condition

Interface > Status is equal to Down
Interface > Custom Properties > More_Important_Than_Others is equal to Yes

Reset Condition

Interface > Status is equal to Up
Interface > Custom Properties > More_Important_Than_Others is equal to Yes

What's an orion alert manager?

Oh, that alert manager. Yeah, that's where you create the alert. So the process above has two stops - one in the Custom Property Editor to create and populate your interface property and then in the Advanced Alerts application to configure your alert using the new custom property.
