SMS with Cellular Modem

Question

We are looking to setup Orion to send out SMS alerts using a serial connected cellular modem.  Has anyone done this and if so what is the best method.  We could also get a USB cellular modem if it makes a difference.  I saw some post from 2003 about this, but was hoping for something more current.  If someone from Solarwinds wants to contact me that would be fine also.  Thanks, Jeff

We used to do this, but the modem diead a year or so back and I've been relying on the mail server for relays ever since. My typical experience is to run a light "SMS Server" in conjunction with the SMS Modem, which you can then configure Solarwinds to relay through. Not all in all to difficult I believe.

We're looking at returning to this as well... as cheap as these modems are nowadays, it's worth it - especially when my mail gateway is down.
