Cisco icons for building Maps

Is there a way to import cisco icons and have them provide the same status indications when using standard solarwinds icons. i.e it goes red when device is down.

You could use the Cisco Visio stencils and save each one as a gif file.
Then save them in the appropriate mapmaker icon directory.
The new mapmaker allows you to put a coloured pad (among others) under the Icon which indicates the node's status.

The SolarWinds Map Maker update in Version 7.1 will allow copy and paste of device icons directly from Visio (or other graphics programs).

Select the device icon in Visio and select "Copy".
Within Map Maker, select "Paste Special" from the Edit menu.

Version 7.1 or Orion should be available by the beginning of March 2004.

I've made my own icons for routers, switches etc. I saved them as .wmf (just as those icons in the Map Maker Icon folder) with Paint Shop Pro and imported them into the same folder as the "old" icons. But they didn't look like those I've made, they din't have the same colours. They where for example black instead of different green colours. Have anyone got an idea why? It has to be possible to show more than one colour.

One of the only tools that I've found which will properly save (export) to a .wmf is Adobe Illustrator. The .wmf is a vector format, and most drawing packages are raster (pixel) based. When a raster based program saves to a .wmf format, they simply encapsulate a bitmap image surrounded by a "vector box". This sorta works, but it's a cheap fix and usually doesn't scale correctly. I have used Adobe Photoshop to create the intial drawing, then open it in Illustrator, have it convert to vector, and export to .wmf - this seems to work well, but avoid gradiant shading and stay with simple shapes.

I downloaded the Cisco Powerpoint icons, pasted them into Paint Shop Pro, and saved them in greyscale (filename.wmf), red (filename-down.wmf), yellow (filename-warning.wmf) and green (filename-up.wmf). I saved them in the C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Network Performance Monitor V7\Maps\NetObjects\Scalable\Devices\ directory.

The colours look a little funny in the Map Maker app, but once save in a map and viewed in a web browser, they look fine and change colour correctly.

In our case we have used the Cisco Visio stnecils and exported them as GIFs (with the appropriate color scheme for up, down, etc.). However, some work and some don't. For example our 7206, 5400, etc work fine, but our 2950 or 3500 series switches do not.

Anyone see this before? Any recommendations to "fix" this?

I'm running 7.4 and find the whole element of icons fiddly. Especially when it comes to resizing them.

I have managed to copy-paste Cisco images from Visio with reasonable success. In addition, I have used MS Office Picture Manager which exports WMF to GIF/JPEG very nicely.

Found the best way to export vector art from Adobe Illustrator to Map Maker

Colorize your object into 4 colors, green, red, yellow, grey.

Do a File > Export on each one and save it as .EMF and folow the naming of the scaleable objects already in map maker, name.emf, name-down.emf, name-up.emf, and name-warning.emf

Copy the 4 files to the "imported" directory solarwinds\orion\maps\netobjects

The file sizes will be really small, and they will be vector art, meaning you can resize it to ridicoulous dimentions and it still will not distort
