Unknown interface even though it's up and working.

Question

Ok, here is my issue. I have had several nodes that the interface has gone into an unknown status. The thing is when I go into Interfaces it shows 2 of the same interface one is unknown and the other shows up as green. I can unmanage the unknown one and everything is fine. I have about 10 nodes that this has happened to. My main question is why is are my nodes duplicating the interfaces and one is showing as unknown and the other a green status?

I'll try this. It is happening on devices that are on our NetApps. As far as nightly scans we don't do them nightly as our network team was concerned about the traffic generated.

This can happen on devices where the interfaces change... as janene16​ stated the index changes.  This used to really be problem with Cisco devices when interface cards were added or removed.  I also have some NetApps that do this when the volumes change in my monitoring.  You should be able to either rediscover or manually fix by going to the node and relisting the resources again and fixing them.

are you running Nightly discovery? Also, does your Interfaces change its indexes frequently? For your unknown interfaces, if it shows as -1 index, then that could be the reason why its unknown
