Interface Status Unknown - ("?")

I have a case of the infamous "?"s on all of my interfaces on two Cisco 2960 switches.

I've contacted Support who rubberstamped me with a response saying that it's the Cisco CSCdz51138 bug (see also support.solarwinds.net/.../ProblemDetail.cfm. The switches, however, are using an IOS well beyond the 12.2(15) where it was reportedly fixed. Additionally, when I choose to "List Resources" for the 2960 nodes, I receive all of the correct node statuses... but this information is not being pulled to the default system status pane.

The polling cycle is set long enough for all interfaces to be polled, the firewall has been checked and is configured correctly, and the community strings are correct on both ends.

It seems to be an instance of where the data pulled with NPM's left hand (in the "List Resources") isn't being moved over to NPM's right hand (the node list/tree). Does anyone have any clues as to what may be causing this?

I appreciate any suggestions you may have. Hopefully this issue is one of the unspecified bugs to be fixed in the 8.1 rollout (www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp

i have the same issue...two very different cisco 'firewalls' and they both go into the unknown status at the same time.
we'll see what the ts folks say about the ticket i just opened.

Just an FYI that my "?"s have magically gone away since my original post. The tree pane and the "List Resources" info are now synch'd, but this issue appears to have resolved itself. I'm not aware of what exactly changed to make things play nice.

true enough. mine have disappeared as well. they seem to go thru a cycle. I have not narrowed down a particular length of time they're down, or up, or how often.

spooky... does it seem to corellate with either of your (ceclark & nwood) node / interface re-discovery times?

no it will sit there for an hour here, an hour there. i'm set to 30 minutes rediscovery. even when i go into sys man and manually poll then rediscover they will not go green. Validate snmp also fails at that point. later it will come back without touching anything.

We have enough youth, how about a fountain of smart?

Unfortunately, I can't say for certain. This is one of those types of issues where now that it's been fixed (regardless of HOW it got fixed), I've moved on to bigger fish.
