False Uptime/Reboot readings

Question

I have a number of switches that were last booted on 1st August 2004. Solarwinds correctly reported last reboot and uptime data until 31st Jan 2006. Nine switches, all Cisco 3548s, now display as last reboot 31 January 2006. There were no alerts, just a change of status on the database.

Issuing a sho ver on the switches reports the correct last reboot and uptime info. Has anyone else experienced similar issues and found a resolution as this is slightly messing up the accuracy of my reports. Any device reboot on a report has to be accounted for. other switches with the same last reboot i.e. 3550s do not have the problem.

I think I'm following what you all are saying here but want to be sure.  We have a 6509 that has been up for over two years and a show command proves that.  But Orion reports it has only been up for 50 days.  This is because the snmp counters have rolled?

Hey Ian,

I have had the same issue with several 3548 switches in my environment.  As suggested by Mr. bleearg13 this is an SNMP counter issue.  I periodically reboot the little beasts (every quarter) to make sure all is well.  I haven't had a problem since.

This is due to counter rollover.  We had the same problem, in addition to false Interface Last Change alerts.  You need to reboot your switches, AFAIK, to get things right again.  This is an SNMP issue, not an Orion issue.
