Question

Hi, I'm new to SolarWinds and Thwack as well. I have a SolarWinds (NPM) Server successfully installed in my network. However, the company I work for, supports other companys MDM environments, including AirWatch. How do I setup an Agent that's installed on a Server in one of our Customer's network, so that it communicates to the Orion Server in my network? Don't I have to have an external hostname and IP setup for my Orion Server? I looked in the Installation and Admin Guides but cannot find anything about needing to setup an external hostname and IP if you are going to be monitoring nodes outside of the network that your SolarWinds server resides.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Solarwinds can monitor anything that has an IP address.  If you need to monitor something outside the network that your Solarwinds server resides on, you just need the IP of that device and appropriate firewall rules (If the traffic has to traverse through any) that allows the traffic to get from your polling server to the device you want to be monitored.  You would also need/want to have SNMP or WMI setup depending on what the device is you want to monitor.
