How can I get Orion to update node names with hostname changes?

Question

I have a bunch of nodes, over a thousand, that I'll be updating their hostnames to better reflect our naming standard.

How can I get NPM to update the node name automatically? Or do I have to go into each profile of the node?

I know I'm SOL on the atlas maps changing automatically for the hostnames and will have to do that manually.

Ok, That's awesome!

Might add a where to save some database churn.

Now, how bout a query that will look for nodes that are up but SNMP can't connect, and reset the community from "public' to our standard community.  Is looking for Status = 0 enough?

I created a SQL job that runs nightly (this removes caption from all nodes): the step (code) is: update nodes set Caption=NULL The system will re-populate the field as it does rediscovery (defaults every 30 min). for maps, since you have to touch everyone anyways, I suggest using macros for the names. change the

 to <${Caption}>

without the <> of course.

This will allow the system to query the DB for that field dynamically and you won't have to update.  I use that for 98% of my labeling on maps.
