Hello, Am having some issues getting availability on some of my nodes as there has been no data for the past month; please how can I resolve this?
I can help more if you explain what you mean by some of your nodes, and what no data means? Do these nodes show down? Is layer 3 working?
Thanks Jim. I think the problem lies with the SolarWinds Trap Service as this has refused to start. Any help with this?
Hello, Kindly see status of my last backup from my Network Performance Polling Engine. Please assist... http://i62.tinypic.com/kf2l9d.jpg
Hello erdzzy,
What products do you currently have installed? The trap service behaviour may be normal.
Availability i.e up/down is calculated from the ICMP ping response from the node. If you are missing availability from "some" nodes they should be showing as down. If you are missing other stats such as CPU/MEM you should verify the nodes are responding to SNMP/WMI
1. Are the nodes that are missing stats showing as up/down/warning/other?
2. If you try to "List resources" on one of the nodes in question - do you see a list of objects such as CPU/Interfaces etc or a message saying "the node is no longer responding and maybe down
If you see the error message and the node is up, it indicates that either the node is no longer responding to SNMP, in which case you should check the string is correct / firewall rules and ACL etc on the device.
Tony.
Thanks Tony. Am missing availability for ALL nodes (There has been no data for almost 52 days now) and they are showing as unknown.
Clicking on a node doesn't provide the interface's details rather, I get nothing! See part of what displays in the Polling Details... http://tinypic.com/m/ins7f6/2
Do you have any idea what causes this issue? Could it be the SQL Server? Thanks for your anticipated responses.
Try to ping the node in question from your main Orion server. If you are getting ICMP replies, the orion server has communication with that node. If not, check your security (firewall) or routes to and from the node and establish communication. Then, log into the node and check to see if WMI or SNMP is enabled. Go back to your web console and find your node; click Edit Node. Make sure the name and ip are correct. Scroll down to "Polling Method". This should match whatever is enabled on your node. Click test and it should be successful. If not, there is still something wrong with WMI/SNMP or communication between your orion server and node. If it is successful, hit submit at the bottom of the page. Now, click "List Resources" under the Management box, and place check marks next to the resources you want to monitor. Click submit. The next time Orion polls the node, you will start to see data.
I ran into a problem like this not too long ago. I could not ping the node (which was in a DMZ) from the Orion server. Our security team found that there was a rule missing for traffic between the Orion server and the node. Once they added the rule, I could ping the node from the Orion server and we started seeing data 10 minutes later.
Hope this helps!
Mike
Yeah that's not good. This message usually indicates the poller isn't working. This needs to be fixed before we look at the the nodes themselves.
General steps to resolve this:
I've seen this before related to Licensing, .Net corruption, Services crashing on NPM, and DB dns name issues.
Hi Jim, I've tried steps 1 to 5 but it's still unsuccessful. I wish I could resolve this issue soonest....
Hi Tony,
The Trap Service isn't running and has refused to run even when I start it manually.
1. The nodes appear as Unknown.
2. The information I get is that No Node is selected... When I try to edit a node, I see the message... Host is Empty
erdzzy did you receive any errors when you ran the configuration wizard? One other idea I suggest is running as admin the Orion Permission Checker - go to Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion and run the OrionPermissionChecker.exe - check and/or repair any errors.
That's about all I have. I'd suggest you open a ticket with Solarwinds for assistance.
