First I'd like to apologize if I've missed this information somewhere else. I've been reading through everything I can get my hands on, and I'm apparently missing a piece of the puzzle.
We are primarily a Dell shop, and have various servers and what I'm trying to attempt to do is have Orion NPM send out alerts when our servers report a problem and light up the amber light on the front.
Currently, I found the OID for the chassis status, but as things currently stand, it recognizes a Non Critical Alert for anything from needing to update firmware to losing a hard drive in an array or have a power supply go down. While it's good to know we need to update firmware, it is critical to US that we know when a drive fails, or we lose a power supply, etc. There is no way to differentiate. Basically we want to be alerted any time the server sees fit to light the amber alert light.
I've been digging through various Dell SNMP tables looking to see if there is something I can poll that will give me a status that mirrors what gets displayed on the Front Panel LCD. If I could remotely read the status message, that would be perfect. If instead, I can poll something that would tell me the status of the alert light, that would be fine too. At this point, I'll take what I can get.
I did find OIDs for various subsystems and can set them all up, I suppose. I was just hoping to find a single thing I can poll which will tell me the overall health of the server as reflected in the amber light/Front Panel LCD.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance
