I appreciate all the help this forum has been since I've started my journey into solarwinds, and I seek guidance once again. I have been tasked by my manager to backup our solarwinds installation. I have verified that our SQL database performs nightly backups, and I know it stores almost all the information pertaining to our installation, but I need guidance on backing up the actual website interface. I found an old article stating:
The Web Console is now backed up in the Orion database. As long as you keep a backup of the database - it will hold all of the configurations for the Web Console.
The following are exceptions:
- Custom modified files (e.g. using Notepad to recode some of the files)
- Custom images (e.g. banner, etc.)
- Hotfixes (that require updating files in C:\Inetpub\SolarWinds)
For now, just backup the Web Console directory (default - C:\Inetpub\SolarWinds) and do a backup of the Orion database.
So my question is, this response was from 2012, is this still current? Assuming this is still current, it looks to me like given our DB backups, and a backup of the SolarWinds directory from our server, that we have everything backed up. Is this correct? I would appreciate verification on this, and if I'm wrong a nudge in the right direction. And I should add, I know there are cloud-based backup solutions, but thanks to our tight security policies, I cannot use them. Thanks everyone.
