Alerting Engine

Since I have installed Orion v8, none of my advanced alerts have been working. They will neither log to a file or send a page, but they do show up on the web site and on the Active Alerts page.

I have tried re-creating them from scratch with no better results. I have also called support and did not get a call back. Can anyone help me?

Did the services start? That's my issue at the moment. My syslog, trap, and alerting engine won't start...gives sql login error.

I asume you've seen the sticky about the patch?

You're not the only one. I've seen the same symptoms, and I've tried everything I can think of. I've emailed support about it a couple times and was told they'll update me when they have more information. I'd say keep the heat on them, so at least they are aware that people are having issues with it.

Makes me feel better that I'm seeing other people report this as well...I thought I was losing my mind, or had done something stupid on my install.

There are a few different things that could be happening.

- What is the SQL Error?
- Have you tried the steps detailed on #9 here: www.solarwinds.net/.../faq.aspx

I'm having the same issue. After upgrading to Version 8.0.1 my alerts are not working. When I hit the test alert i get the alert emails but when it's monitoring an interface that just went down i do not get alert emails. Here is a sample of my error message log:

Error Number--2147220960

Looks like my issue is "SendUsing configuration value is invalid" with error number 2147220960. Solarwinds support has not been able to define that error number and what it means.

And i have applied the alert engine patch with no joy.

I have to restart the Solarwinds Alerting Engine service about every three days or so to allow logging into the web interface.

Version 8.1 with some hot fixes.

I also have the following error in an Event Log:

[MainTaskThread] ERROR All - Exception in MainTask Loop

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Any help is appreciated.

You're posting on an old thread that's referencing 8.0. We made a lot of changes for 8.1. Your problem is probably different than the ones mentioned earlier. I'd encourage you to open a Support ticket on your issue that we can collects logs and diagnostics on your specific problem.
