Solarwinds web site slow slow slowwwww

I have installed the NPM9.5 trial software on and I am actually disappointed at the responsiveness of the web site.

I am using ESX4 server on a raid 10 SCSI server with 2 dual core Xeon 3.6 CPU/ win2003R2 SQL2005.

and there is are no other servers on the ESX.

The host has 2G ram with no other limitation. except the hard drive which are 2 16GB drives for windows and Solarwinds separately.

I have done absolutely everything I could find on this site but disappointingly NOTHNIG has worked for.

The web is slow showing the first login page and even worse showing the home page. Receiving timeout to requests every now and then, this has been the most frustrating software that I had to deal with ever.

I even tried win2008 and SQL2008 thinking this might help but no luck.

what can I do to solve this annoying issue? any Ideas? By the way the event log is clean and there is no system hog.

help would be much appreciated

Hi dehgan,

If you have the NPM and SQL running on the same machine it will be slow. Is it possible you can use a sepetrate SQL server not on a VM?

Also do you have anti-virus running on the server with real-time file scan enabled? If so, can you exclude the inetpub directory?

Yeah i have tried the separate SQL on another server approach (on another Chassis) with no luck. my bad, I forgot to mention it.

As for the VM, ESX has been deployed globally for many applications. We are already using this environment for our services, heavily used services such as SharePoint, Ciscoworks, Active Directory... and there are no such problems seen with them.

Now with 30 or less switches monitoring 1 interface and CPU for each switch I wouldn’t have expected such behavior from any application on any chassis of this class.

Is there any published document stating the compatibility issue with ESX?

I thought of this before but I have seen nothing on this on the site.

The system is also clean, it is freshly installed. Windows,SQL,.Net,IIS and then NPM and nothing else

yeah, none of the statements apply in this situation, I am not sure am I able to open up a support ticket for eval software?
