Question On Adding Custom Properties

Question

Its probably a stupid question so bear with me here.  I just recently upgraded our solarwinds to ver7 on the idea that the newest version would let me add custom fields to the orion webpage (so i can add an additional notes section that doesn't rely on SNMP).  And true enough, this feature is in solarwinds 7.  However, i cannot seem to figure out how to get a custom property from the solarwinds database to the actual webpage.  In the end, what i would like to do is have a few extra properties (either as part of the node details grouping, or in thier own grouping right below it) that have things like "modem type" and "additional notes".  what is the best way to go about this?

Tony, This is a long time coming, but here is one way to customize the node-details page; Rather than creating login accounts for every device, you can add a URL to the customized info, to a Custom Property - "Dox" You can then display this Custom Property on the Node Details page using the ...Solarwinds\NetPerfmon\9-1-Miscellaneous\70-telnet.resource. (or what ever resource you are using to telnet &/or browse to the node) Add the following code to display a link to HTML documentation specific to each node; ">Support Dox for <%=Node.GetProperty("NodeName")%> In the Custom Property Editor table "Dox", is the rest of the URL to the node documentation published on the server, E.G. dox/node-xyz/node-troubleshooting-info.html You can convert all your Word, Excel & Visio dox to HTML and publish them on the Orion server. That way you have links to context sensitive info for each node on the Node details page. You could go one step further and actually publish the info as part of the node details page by adding a resource with the "raw html code" using this same Custom Property Editor linking system. I've been searching for info on a question I have and this thread is the closest to my question.

Is it possible to customize the view specific to the node you are looking at?  In other words if I drill down through my maps and finally get to the node details screen is it possible to have custom sections that pertain to that node only...If I add a custom link it appears on node detail page regardless of the device.  I'm looking to make the info I see specific to the node I am looking at.  We plan to use the toolset to monitor mibs and we thought we might be able to pull some of those graphs via HTML to that specific node details page.

I know I can do this by make several different user logins with customized views but I was hoping to keep that to a minimum.

Unfortunately, all the editing of the custom properties still needs to be done via the Custom Property Editor. I'm sure there's a way to make it work in a more automated fashion, but not online. 
 
The only problem I see with this is that it will require further expansion of the accounts to add edit permissions and all that jazz. I imagine if you know enough .net/SQL, it would be possible to make another webpage for the duty. 
 
Then again, I haven't reached that level of customization just yet.
