I am having a problem with my IT dept not allowing me to add my devices to dns (security reasons) or allowing me to have a secondary dns server. Therefore I am using my /etc/hosts file to resolve names. The problem I'm now running into is that the name resolution works 95% of the time but for a couple of machines the name resolution is intermittent meaning Solarwinds resolves the name some times but not all of the time. Is it possible to add a short-delay to the alerting method that would allow Solarwinds a second or 2 to look through the entire host file to resolve the name? or Is there another method of resolution?
