Migration from V7
romanwind
Hi all, I would migrate from Orion ver. 7.8.148 to Ver. 8. I'm dismissing old server and for this reason I'm installing on a new one. I have installed Solarwind software and I have created a copy of ver.7 sql server database. During installation phase I have an error during database check due to error columns and keys on database. Is there an utility to be used to migrate from ver.7 to ver. 8?
Thank you in advance.....

Did you install v7 or v8 on the new server?

Did you attach the database to the SQL server before or after you installed v8?

First time I started Orion after installation it ask me to create or use a database. During this phase I have selected a copy of v7 database. During check procedure I have some error due to impibbility of create or modify some keys and so on.

If the database was already attached to your SQL Server then installing v8 should have created the new rows...etc.
You could always uninstall v8 and install v7. Make sure it's working correctly. Once it is then uninstall v7 and install v8 and then run through the configuration wizard. When you get to the database part point it to the NetPerfMon database and it should do the rest for you (in theory).

I'll try tomorrow morning (in Italy is midnight now), but I suppose I'll have the same issue. In fact the database was attached to a Solarwind ver7 and it was working fine. I will let you know. Thank you for your support

It sounds like the new server does not have the required permissions to write to or modify the exiting SQL DB.
The normal way to migrate the DB to a new server is to backup the existing DB.
Then install SQL on you new server & do a restore of the backup.
Then install Orion & point it to this restored DB.
It must have the required permissions in the account used to access the DB to modify the DB.
Usually it requires DBA/SA rights to modify the DB.
