Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Device shows as "down", but it is reachable
FormerMember
We have a Sharp multifunction network printer/scanner/fax at a remote location that I'm trying to monitor.
I can add the IP address and correct SNMP string to Orion and select the elemenst that I want to monitor. I can even actually capture statistics from the device, yet Orion says the device is down.
The Orion server can ping the printer, can access it's HTTP management interface and, like I said, can even collect SNMP statistics but still lists the Printer as "Down"
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks,
Doug

make sure that you can ping the device from the orion server - It uses ICMP to determine if the device is up or down

If you have a firewall between Orion and the device you may need to tell Orion to use a 32 byte ICMP packet instead of 67 bytes it is probably using at present.
In the System Manager
Click File -> Orion Network Performance Monitor Settings
Click on the "Network" tab
You will see a section called data portion of ICMP packet. Delete enough text from this area so the bytes is equal to 32. You should then find that Orion thinks the device is up.
