Are there any detailed instructions out there for upgrading SQL Standard 2000 to 2008 on an Orion 9.1 installation?
Or is it just a straightforward upgrade from the SQL side with no impact on Orion?
Orion 9.1 does not support SQL 2008. If you want to upgrade to SQL 2008, you will also need to upgrade your NPM to 9.5
That's the plan, but how do I upgrade NPM to 9.5 first if it doesn't support SQL 2000?
Can you do an incremental upgrade to SQL 2005 first? That will be common ground between the Orion versions.
I can if that's what I need to do. But the original question still stands. Do I need some detailed instructions, or do I just install SQL 2005, upgrade to NPM 9.5, then upgrade SQL to 2008?
My main concern is that there are going to be some SQL settings that need to be tweaked, and I see no documentation on the support site about recommended steps to do the SQL upgrades.
The closest thing there is for what you are asking might be the Evaluation Guide. There are detailed steps in there regarding how to enable IIS on both 2003 & 2008.

This doc. below also has the fundamental steps you need, it just has not been updated to 2008 yet.
