Dell Custom MIB Pollers & views

Hey guys,

So I downloaded custom MIB pollers for Dell from the ContentExchange area and imported them into NPM.

Then I assigned the custom MIB pollers to the nodes, by right-clicking on the nodes in System Manager and selecting all Dell pollers.

Then I went to edit my "Nodes" view to include a couple of cool looking charts ;-)

I added a Custom Poller Chart to the view, then I tried to select the custom poller to be charted from the drop-down menu.

Sadly, I could only choose from three of the Dell Custom MIB Pollers. The other pollers were not available in the drop-down.

More details: I'm running Linux RHEL5 on the nodes, have snmp working correctly, have the latest version of Dell OpenManage installed on the nodes, and have added the following string to my snmp.conf:

# Allow Systems Management Data Engine SNMP to connect to snmpd using SMUX
using SMUX
smuxpeer .1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.1

Do you guys have any suggestions for a poor Linux admin trying to make NMP work for the penguins?

I believe the reason why you can only choose three of the universal MIB pollers to chart is that the universal device pollers must be defined as a "rate" and need to be configured to keep historical data. Look at the configuration of the universal device pollers that you'd like to chart but can't and made adjustments as necessary. Hope this helps.

Your operating system should matter (completely) as long as you've got OpenManage installed. When you look at the pollers in the Orion Universal Device Poller, are they responding? Many MIBs won't work for certain charts based on their output types (i.e. you can't make a radial guage for a serial number), though you can modify these as needed in the UnDP.

Not sure if I've been very helpful, but maybe you can provide us a more detailed example of what you're trying to do with what MIBs, and we can give you a more specific answer.

Hmm... I'm afraid I need to upgrade to a newer version to get the Orion Universal Device Poller GUI, because I'm running NPM version 8.1.0 and can't seems to find it. Is there another way to check if the pollers are responding, or am I just not finding it?

To be honest I didn't have a specific MIB I needed polled right away, but I wanted to get "them all" to work, so that I could figure out how to extract value from them later on. Also it's to show off to the rest of the team, who will be really impressed when I show that I can chart everything you can see in openmanage!

If you're still on 8.1, I strongly urge you to upgrade to 9.1. We have made so much progress since 8.1. The thought of you missing out on all that goodness makes me a little sad.

I'm happy to report that we finally upgraded to 9.1.

We're now poking around and exploring the new version.
