SQL 2008 vs SQL 2005

Question

Does Orion work with SQL 2008 64 bit server? Just the database?

We currently are running a Orion 2003 32bit server and want to put the database on a 2008 server cluster running SQL 2008 64 bit. Has this been tested or should we stick with a 32 bit SQL install?

Speaking of upgrading from SQL 2000 to 2005 i have failed in my morning mission of finding some documentation in hopes of determining if there is anything special that needs to be done in order add the 2000 database to the 2005 SQL server.

Incidentally, for those out there considering this I believe 2005 licenses are no longer available. When you buy 2005 they give you a 2008 license and you can upgrade anytime. At least this is what i was told by our reseller.

It would probably be easiest for you to upgrade to 2008 when you upgrade to the next version of Orion.

Thanks for your comments Denny but upgrading to SQL 2008 at the same time doing a major Orion upgrade is not what I prefer to do.  There are too many variables that could potentially impact such an upgrade doing the backend database at the same time.  It would be preferable to see one interim release support both 2000 and 2008 so the SQL upgrade can be done separately.  The way I see it, we're locked into upgrading to 2005 now and then migrate again (to 2008) in 6 months or so after next major release.

We don't support SQL 2008 yet.  It will most likely be called v10, but I'm not committed to that.  It's the next big release.  We'll drop 2000 and pick up 2008 at the same time.  It would probably be easiest for you to upgrade to 2008 when you upgrade to the next version of Orion.
